Could you grow the tallest sunflower to win £100 for your school?

Our members Aquascapes & Landscaping are once again getting the kids out in the garden with their 'Tallest Sunflower Competition' to win £100 for their school and £25 for the 1st place winner. There is also a prize for 2nd and 3rd place.

Here are a few tips, keep scrolling to the bottom to see how you can enter the competition:

To grow sunflowers you need a sunny, sheltered spot and good soil – add plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost before planting, if you can. Protect the young plants from slugs and snails and water your sunflowers regularly. You may also need to stake them if they’re in an exposed position.

Choose your variety carefully as some sunflowers will grow 50cm, while others grow over 3m. Sow seeds in pots from April and plant out when all risk of frost has passed. Prepare the soil well and add plenty of organic matter to the planting hole. Keep your sunflowers well watered and feed weekly to encourage them to grow tall. You may need to stake some of the taller varieties.

To enter

Like Aquascapes & Landscaping Facebook page (here) and comment on the post (here) letting them know that you will be entering. Share with friends and family, the more you plant the better your chances.

The competition will be judged on 20th September 2021.

Good luck!
