Could you grow the tallest sunflower for £100?
Our members Aquascapes & Landscaping are once again getting the kids out in the garden with their 'Tallest Sunflower Competition' to win £100 for their school and £25 for the 1st place winner. There is also a prize for 2nd and 3rd place.
Here's a few tips, keep scrolling to the bottom to see how you can enter the competition:
Plants will do better and get taller if planted directly in to the ground but they can be started off in pots to give them a good start.
A good multi purpose compost should be used.
Fill the pot up to the top with compost and push a finger in to create a hole.
Drop one seed in to a depth of an inch (25mm) and cover over.
Give them a good water and place somewhere sunny in the garden or on a windowsill.
Plants should start to appear within 7-10 days.
Once the plants start showing roots coming out from the bottom of the pot they should be replanted either direct in to the ground or if that’s not possible the biggest pot you have. As they grow taller they will need supporting to canes for stakes. There are lots of varieties of sunflowers but you want to plant the giant single variety which can grow up to 4-5 metres in height.
Like Aquascapes & Landscaping facebook page (here) and comment on the post (here) letting them know that you will be entering. Share with friends and family, the more you plant the better your chances.
The competition will be judged on 28th September 2019.
