WiSE Transport Scheme Celebrates its 5th Anniversary
The WiSE Transport Scheme celebrated its 5th anniversary on 15th January.
Established in 2015 to provide a cost effective way for the over 60's to get to appointments, meet friends and attend the wide variety of social activities that the WiSE area has to offer, clients are very much catered for as individuals and vehicles are matched to their needs wherever possible.
An incredible 6-fold increase has been achieved in passenger numbers since the scheme began. 313 people were transported in 2015 compared to a staggering 1,897 in 2019, to the end of November.
"I struggle to walk so having transport is much needed as I don't drive"
"I lost my husband after being together for 67 years. This severely impacted on my confidence and I became a recluse in my own home. When I went on my first activity with WiSE it was a massive thing for me – I was full of fear and trepidation. My fears were quickly dispelled and I couldn't believe how welcoming the whole team were. As time has progressed, I look forward to going out. I have rediscovered some of my confidence and I have made friends"
"It helps me get out and about since I lost my driving license. Without the scheme I'd be stuck indoors most of the time"
"The drivers are always on time, very helpful and courteous. It’s a wonderful service. Long may it continue…"
"It makes it convenient to get to the shops and do my own shopping and get to any other places I might like to go…its so easy to ring up and make arrangements"
"It gave me a chance to get out after I had broken the top of my arm. It was a real lifesaver"
"It allows me to join in WiSE activities which I thought would never happen after my husband's death and I have met people in similar situations"
"It feels like a friend is coming to pick you up"
"Bridget and Jo contact me in advance to let me know who is picking me up and when. I look forward to the phone call as they are always cheerful and enquire as to how I am…I appreciate the lengths they must go to in arranging lifts for me and others"
