Just a few hours can be all it takes to transform a patio into an inviting outdoor space
Pressure washer (optional)
Pruning tools (optional)
Dustpan and brush
Pots and plants
Cushions and decorations
Have a tidy up, removing any rubbish. Empty old pots onto the garden, spreading compost onto beds and borders. Put anything you want to keep to one side, leaving the patio totally clear.
Cut back any overhanging growth from neighbouring plants if they've grown out over the paving or are blocking too much light.
Clean the paving - a stiff broom is normally sufficient, but for mossy/weedy areas a special patio broom with wire bristles can be useful.
If the paving is covered with moss and algae it can become slippery; use a pressure washer to clean it.
Re-place your garden furniture, making sure you put in the most inviting spot for you, taking into account sun and shade, privacy and ease of access.
Use potted plants and accessories to brighten up your space. Look out for 'bedding plants' - they are simply those grown to give a burst of quick, cheap seasonal colour.
