Days at work mean the list of jobs around the house have gone untouched for a long time now. Lockdown can be a great time to start ticking off your to do list and stay within the boundaries of guidelines and restrictions.
There may be a group in your neighbourhood that needs extra volunteers. From joining an organised group, helping someone vulnerable in your street by collecting groceries for them on your own essential shop to making sure someone elderly/vulnerable on your street knows they can get in touch, even for a chat on the phone - we can do our bit in our communities and still stay safe.
Support your Local Businesses
The doors may be shut on some of your local businesses for now but the virtual door will always remain open. Give small businesses your support with a like, follow or share from their social pages.
Get in the Garden
From pruning and weeding to mowing the lawn, there is always something to do in the garden. Why not start a vegetable patch?
Prune evergreen shrubs, such as juniper and yew, in late March or early April before new growth begins. Light pruning may also be done in mid-summer. Avoid pruning evergreen shrubs in the fall. Fall pruned evergreens are more susceptible to winter injury.
The best time to prune is after flowering. If the plant needs to be renovated, or severely reduced, this can be done late winter and early spring just before growth begins. Remove old flowers (deadhead) and cut back to healthy outward facing buds. Remove damaged, diseased, old wood and straggly growth.
Tackle that ironing pile
A chore many of us loath but with spare time on our hands, it's amazing what we can get through. Not only will the house look tidier but there is an air of self satisfaction when the last item is hung in the wardrobe.
