Hartlaw LLP is one of the firms across North, West and East Yorkshire partnering with Martin House by offering basic wills at a reduced rate throughout May.
Now in its fifth year, Make a Will Month gives people the chance to make or update a basic will at a cost of just £60 for individuals or £110 for mirror wills – a considerable saving on the usual price. Rachel Saunders, Hartlaw private client department Solicitor, said: "Hartlaw LLP are already proud members of the Martin House Business Club and consider that our involvement in Make a Will Month is another way of showing our ongoing commitment to the great work that Martin House and its supporters do.
We feel it is important for local businesses to work together for the good of the community. Few people realise the importance of making a will and the real repercussions of not having one.” Director of Fundraising at Martin House, Jodie Shepherd, explains: “Whilst we don’t always like to think about what might happen when we die, making a Will is a vital step in ensuring the people and things we care about are taken care of after we are gone. “Many people consider themselves too young to make a Will, or think they have nothing to leave, but this important process can protect your assets, avoid disputes, save on inheritance tax, and, most importantly, ensure that your property and savings go to the people and causes you care about. “Making a Will is also a good opportunity to think about how you might consider continuing to support your favourite charities. Though you are under no obligation to leave a gift in your Will, a legacy to Martin House could enable us to provide care and support for future generations of children and young people in your area who have life-limiting conditions.” Martin House this year celebrates its 30th anniversary of caring for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses and supports more than 400 families and 150 bereaved families every year at its hospice in Boston Spa and in the community. People can take part in Make a Will Month, by making an appointment with Hartlaw and completing an entitlement voucher.
