Brown garden waste bin due to start soon

GARDEN WASTE COLLECTIONS WILL BEGIN ON MONDAY 27TH FEBRUARY 2017
If you have a brown (garden waste) bin, the service runs from March to November with collections taking place every fortnight. To download your calendar visit the Check your bin day page.
If you do not have a brown bin it is likely that our service does not run in your area. You will be unable to request a brown bin and will need to take your waste to one of our recycling sites.
What items can I put in my brown garden waste bin?
Yes please:
Flowers and plants
Grass cuttings
Hedge clippings
Leaves
Twigs and small branches (not more than 3 cm thick)
Windfall fruit
Weeds
Please put these into your bin loose and do not use any plastic bags.
No thanks:
Plastic of any kind
Glass
Food waste (including fruit skins)
Pet bedding, pet waste or cat litter
Soil
Rubble
Noxious weeds
Visit the A to Z of reusing, recycling and waste disposal page for further details and explanations.
Noxious and invasive weeds, such as Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam, Ragwort, and Giant Hogweed cannot be collected or composted by Leeds City Council. If you place a noxious weed in your brown bin, our crew will mark it as contaminated. You will need to remove the contaminant and put your bin out on the next collection day.
For advice on disposing of noxious weeds, please see the information provided by the Environment Agency.
Missed bin collection
If your bin was not collected and it has been two days since the expected collection date, you can report a missed bin collection.
Additional brown bins
You cannot have an additional brown bin and you should only have one if you are on a brown bin route. To find out if you are on a brown bin route use the ‘check your bin day’. If no date appears for brown bin collection then you are not on a brown bin route.
Composting at home
You can compost most types of garden waste at home. You will need a composter which can be obtained from most garden centres and also through Leeds City Council. Please visit our composting page for more information.
