Forget the Festive Season, it's Community Season in Wetherby...

What a night for a Switch On. There was a slight chill to the air but Mother Nature was certainly smiling on us last night with the weather. From fairground rides and the traditional Christmas Market, there was something for everyone.

How amazing were all the children who entertained the crowds?.

After our Mayor, Norma Harrington, welcomed the growing crowd and opened the festivities, Stagecoach opened the show with some of their show songs from Aladdin, together with some Christmas classics, the audience were left wanting more and boy did the next group deliver!

With 70 children from Just For Fun Theatre Group, yes 70! They delivered a superb performance getting everyone involved with A Partridge in A Pear Tree and then blasting a snow machine with a ‘Let it Go’ sing-a-long. Just brilliant.

If all that wasn’t enough, up next we had the angelic tones of Sarah Halliday. It’s a tough job to get up in front of so many people on your own, even worse when it’s your first time but Sarah smashed it.

It was fabulous to welcome back Christine Talbot to flick the all important switch and this year she was joined by the utterly amazing gold medalist paralympian, Kadeena Cox. Both ladies have a strong connection with Wetherby and what an honour to have such talent lighting up our beautiful town.

The finale act of course, in true tradition, marched through the shambles through a parting crowd. The City of Leeds Pipe Band are a firm favourite in Wetherby and a very fitting finale to a wonderful evening.

All in all we think we can safely say a fantastic night was had by all.

We really must say thank you to everyone who is involved in the organisation of the evening. Wetherby Business Association, Wetherbyhour, Wetherby Town Council, JM Kay Electrical, Simon Donkin, Suttles Transport, Market Stall erectors, West Yorkshire Police, Leeds City Council, St John’s Ambulance, Welcome to Wetherby helpers and last but by no means least the wonderful Elves who not only erect all the trees and lights but who come back on the evening to help get stalls ready and look after everyone!

Here's a few more pictures from the evening. With 3 photographers on the evening, if you were there, the chances are you will spot yourself somewhere!

We can't wait for next year...
